Horses - 2010!

MiKayla & Tory, Spring 2010

So, now we are wrapping up the 2010 horse show year.  Tory and MiKayla had a wonderful year so far and we still have a handful of breed shows left for the year.  At the Color Breed Congress, she will be focusing on Novice Youth and Youth English, Showmanship, Youth Halter, and Youth Ideal Pinto - English.  Tory's Western lope has made huge progress; but, like other things, practice makes perfect.  Thru Labor Day weekend, Tory had 18 Paint Alternative Competition points in Halter, and 14 or 15 in Walk Trot.  Tory and MiKayla also went to their first Paint horse show in May and had a good experience.  Tory had a good halter showing so far this year, earning Grand Champion Halter under three times and Reserve Grand Champion Halter horse 1 time, winning 75% of the time (either Grand or Reserve) under the 6 judges that judged thru-out the year at the Flying Arrow Saddle Club shows.  MiKayla won her Showmanship class at the Iowa State Fair with Tory giving her his best Showmanship performance to date.  She also placed in the Open Quarter Horse show the first weekend of the State Fair, earning 1/2 of a QH point (yes, even though Tory has a lot of white (aka Chrome), he is a registered QH as both of his parents are registered QH).

In late December, 2009, we purchased a 2006 Grulla Tovero mare for Kirsten.  Her name is Deeva Attitude, aka Holly.  Kirsten and Holly showed this show season but it isn't quite the match for the two of them.  At the one Flying Arrow Saddle Club show, Kirsten & Holly took 1st place out of 18, in Walk-Trot - 9-12 year old, earning Holly 6 PAC points in just one class!

MiKayla won the Jr Cowgirl Queen title at the Town & Country Saddle Club in June 2010 and represented them at the Iowa State Fair Cowgirl Queen competition.  Tory was not overly happy about the large screen showing the action in the ring, that hung over the one end of the arena.  He did not give MiKayla the best ride and she was unable to make the cut this year.  But, Tory is a young horse and the more we can expose him to unique events the more seasoned we will make him as a show horse.

Kirsten won the Jr Cowgirl Queen title for the Yale Saddle Club in July 2010 and represented them at the Iowa State Fair Cowgirl Queen competition.  Holly wasn't behaving very well, with all of the people at the fair and it was very hot that week that we were at the fair.  Kirsten was lucky enough to borrow a Paint horse to show for the competition, a 14 year old gelding, Dynamic Twis Ted.  Kirsten and Teddy did very well, even though they did not make the cut.  Kirsten had only ridden Teddy three times before the queen contest.
