CHIC - Plan to have testing done in Feb 2010
After all of these years in dogs, you swear that you will never make a decision via what you see on the Internet. But, what did I do, when laid up the spring of 2007, after knee surgery? I contacted Diane Sako (Windfall Havanese) about a litter of puppies that she had at her house that she had listed on her website. By the end of April 2007, Maggie came to live with us.
Maggie is like an airplane in that she has no fear and leaps from furniture piece to furniture piece, without her feet touching the ground. I thought by now that she would have grown up???? Nope, she is still the wild woman that she was before. It doesn't help that my kids taught her how to drink out of a water faucet. Now, when we go to a dog show, she will jump into the bath tub, to see if she can get a drink out of that water faucet. Not a great thing to discover after getting ready for a show, at a hotel, to find Maggie with a wet face and feet, after jumping into a still wet bath tub, from the morning showers.
I placed the first major on Maggie in October 2007. Lynn Meyer was able to get the second major on Maggie in November 2007. Then here comes one of our household Junior showman, MiKayla, who puts on 2 points on Maggie in February 2008 (the major broke, due to the blizzard we were having). Finally, Kirsten put the last 3 majors on Maggie winning 3 times in a row, the 2nd show day in Dubuque and both days in DeWitt the very next weekend, to finish Maggie for me. Guess there isn't a reason for me to go into a show ring with 2 very able and capable juniors in the house.
Maggie is also the junior show dog for MiKayla. MiKayla received 1 Open Intermediate win with Maggie at the Gateway Toy Dog Specialties show in February 2008. At that same show, she took Best Junior Handler. Kirsten earned her 5th Open Junior win with Maggie at Freeport, Illinois. As the girls have both found out, you must work much harder with Maggie as she doesn't have the overall ring time under her belt as Eve does.
Maggie is currently retired from the show ring and loves being a couch potato and house dog. I plan to get her health testing completed in late winter 2010 (hips, patellas, and elbows evaluated for OFA certification as well as a Cardiac test (hopefully at the DeKalb, IL dog show in April 2010). Once her test results are online, I will update this page with her CHIC number.
UPDATE - I am planning to breed Maggie late this spring when she comes in season next. BUT, this breeding won't take place UNTIL I know that I have people interested in puppies. Why? Because the last litter with Eve and Magic resulted in more people deciding to not be serious about purchasing a puppy after they were born, which had led me to tell others that I had my puppies spoken for, which lead 2 puppies staying until they were almost 18 months old before finding their forever home. It wasn't fair for the puppies as well as me and the other dogs at my house. So, this time, we will be doing things a bit differently. Please contact me using the link below if you are interested in a Maggie puppy.
More pictures yet to come, once I fix my scanner :-(
