Velvet was our second show dog at our house. She was 17 years and 3 months old when I helped her pass on to the Rainbow Bridge.
She had 2 beautiful litters during her lifetime. The first litter was with CH Bunnyrun Still the One (aka Fang). There was 5 puppies in that litter (3 boys, 2 girls). Three became AKC Champions: CH Heights The Real One (aka Millie), CH Pfabulus Just Gotta Have It (aka Dale), and CH Pfabulus The Right One Baby (aka Chip).
Velvet's second litter was with CH Diamant's le Magnifique (aka Dex). Dex was Fang's father. I liked the litter with Fang so I thought that I'd go back one more generation and see what would happen by breeding Velvet to Dex. We had 4 boy puppies in this litter. Two went on to become AKC Champions (CH Pfabulus Touch of Diamant (aka Felix) and CH Pfabulus Diamant in the Ruff (aka Oscar). The other 2 were show quality but lack of show homes required that they be placed in pet homes.
Velvet was never an obedient type of dog. She would also hold a grudge. She always did what she pleased when she wanted to. As she got older, she lost her vision and her hearing. Not that it slowed her down much, she would prance around the house, always knowing where things were.
The month before she passed on to the Rainbow Bridge, my friend Kelly stopped at our house. Whenever Kelly would stop by, she would take off her shoes by the front door. We weren't paying any attention to what Velvet was up to. Kelly put her one foot in her shoe and pulled it back very quickly. Her sock was all wet. After examining her shoe, we realized that Velvet had piddled in Kelly's shoe, not missing any of the shoe. There was no wet areas around the shoe at all. Velvet was no where to be found as we realized what had happened. Needless to say, Kelly had to run home for a change of shoes and socks!
